Innovative Packaging Technology Offers More Options for Retailers

CPS Cards increases packaging and distribution options with high-performance system

CPS Cards, a leading provider of gift cards for the retail industry, recently designed and acquired new innovative packaging equipment for their Allentown, Pa. and Chicago, Ill. production facilities.  The new equipment is very flexible and can be configured to handle a wide variety of packaging configurations. The design allows the company to process more than 300 gift cards, or cards on carriers, per minute.  This new technology enables CPS to significantly increase production capacity, improve turnaround times and maintain the high quality standards already present throughout their production facilities.

For retailers who need products packaged to Blackhawk or Incomm specifications, gift cards can be bundled in flexible quantities, shrink wrapped, labeled and boxed for quick and easy delivery to a single address or to multiple locations.  The system is also quality assured through a series of barcode scanning and matching activities, which occur throughout the production process.  “Our customers have specific packaging and distribution needs and with this new technology, we are able to customize solutions to fit their requirements,” said Jim Cooney, vice president of CPS Chicago.  “The jewel of this system is the quality control.  We are able to double check and ensure accuracy during packaging with a camera verification system, which, in turn, allows us to process cards at a quicker rate.”

Packaging is just one component of CPS Cards’ integrated solution. The company also provides card printing, personalization, fulfillment and distribution. This “all-under-one-roof” approach reduces opportunities for errors, increases turnaround times and provides peace of mind for customers looking for quality card products.  This integrated approach allows retailers to utilize one vendor for all of their gift and loyalty card needs.  CPS is currently using the packaging technology to process gift cards for several national restaurant chains and retailers.
